What's QuickDMG

QuickDMG allows you to make a disk image from a file or a folder with little effort. It has following features.

• QuickDMG can make a disk image from a selected file or folder in Finder when it is launched.
• QuickDMG can create a disk image by dragging the file or folder onto the QuickDMG icon.
• The default location is the same as source file, you can change to any location you like.
• A disk image can be created from not only a folder but also a file.
• A disk image can be created from arbitrary multiple files/folders.
• The size of the disk image is automatically determined by the size of the source.
• You can choose the format of the disk image you are creating.
  • You can also create Mac OS 9 compatible disk images.

It is recommended to launch from a launcher of keyboard shortcut, as QuickDMG can create disk image from a selected item in Finder when launched. You can do so and avoid the need of dragging or selecting an item.

Disk images can be created by Disk Utility which is a built-in utility from Mac OS X. However, using Disk Utility can be complicated, and QuickDMG can make it easy.

A compressed disk image has a useful feature, which you can open the file without expanding it. This feature is not given by Zip or StuffIt archives. Therefore disk image files are very useful as the archiver.
